A brand new logo designed for Argus Accounting.

After a 1-2-1 Zoom call, I realised Sharon wanted a new logo designed.

Many people I regularly speak to mention that they are unhappy with their current logo.

They say things like “I only did it myself quickly just to get started.” or “It’s not sending out the right message.” To be honest that’s music to my ears because I just know that I can help.

When you commission to have a new logo designed, you’re not just buying a design that looks nice and colourful, you’re investing in one of the most important elements of your brand so it makes sense to commission a professional graphic designer carefully and not be tempted to settle for the cheapest option.

So how do I do this?

  • I create a brief by asking simple questions such as “What is it that your company does?” or  “Who is your ideal client?” This helps me to get an understanding of where you want to position yourself. I also have a logo design brief which I can go through with you.

  • I do my research by finding out who your competitors are and what their brand (if they have one) looks like. Notes are made and sometimes a few scribbles go down on paper too!

  • I draw out ideas. Lots of plain paper and time to start sketching, this is the fun bit where any idea is jotted down as it may be suitable for further development. Sketches and ideas are then worked up on screen, fonts are chosen and layouts are put together – normally only in black and white at this stage to see what does and doesn’t work.

It’s also important to take time out, get up and put the kettle on to give me a fresh viewpoint when I return (I do love tea and coffee!) The amazing layout I first came up with may not look so good the second time around.

Then it’s time to present to my client. The best ideas are selected and then worked up in colour ready to present, I like to show up to three options. My client will always have an opinion and it may be that elements of all three suggestions are liked and it is at this point where I can decide what needs developing further.

Here’s what Sharon had to say about her logo.

Darren recently worked on my new logo. He makes this process so very easy, from a comfortable chat with him to placing the order and the resulting design. His approach is fresh and client-centric. I certainly plan to work more with Darren going forward.
